If you have been physically injured as a result of a crime, it is important to seek medical treatment for your injuries immediately.
It is advisable to have the injuries documented as evidence for future court proceedings.

For first aid treatment of injuries, go to the nearest Emergency Department (only in German) in a hospital.

Forensic Documentation of Injuries

The Gewaltschutzambulanz (GSA) der Charité (Outpatient Clinic for Protection against Violence at the Charité) can provide a confidential forensic examination and documentation of injuries from, for example domestic violence, interpersonal violence as well as workplace violence. The documentation can be done without a police report and is free of charge.

The documentation will be stored for ten years and can be used for criminal proceedings as well as Violence Protection and Family Court proceedings.

Confidentiality of Forensic Medical Examination after a Sexual Assault

The purpose of confidentiality in a forensic medical examination is to collect physical evidence such as DNA traces without having to report the assault to the police immediately. This will give you time to decide whether you want to report the attack or not while keeping your details confidential.

A forensic medical examination is only possible within 72 hours of a sexual assault. The DNA evidence will be stored for one year.
